FGM Awareness Caravan
Narok County - September 2016
On September 14th, 2016, The Talking Trees Project organized its 1st Caravan for FGM. The Caravan was the most successful one, which saw Johanna Lonyangapuo - a young Masaai Folklorist and 5 Masaai anti-FGM activists reaching over 20,000 roadside onlookers and nearly 2,000 young enthusiasts. Before the Caravan began, Fit-On trainer Angela Nyakerario led the enthusiastic crowd with a fun-filled warm-up routine. The crowd learned the importance respecting women and human rights, by shunning harmful practices like FGM/C that endanger the lives of women and girls. After a 4-mile loop between Ilbisil and Magadi towns, enthusiasts of all ages ran alongside the caravan and assembled at Mlango Kubwa in Namanga town where they enjoyed the traditional entertainment from their favorite folklorist Johanna Lonyangapuo.
